Nicole is a dear and cherished friend who has been battling leukemia since 2006. She is just 39 years old. She began her career (as a Community Service Officer) with CSU Hayward and the Sacramento Police Department. In 2005, she moved to Arizona to be closer to her mother and continued a career in community service as a Crime Prevention Officer and Accident Investigator with a major law enforcement agency. In addition to her patrol duties, she teaches women's self defense courses and focuses on community complaints and community policing as time permits. Although she takes a daily chemotherapy she has continued to work serving the citizens at 120%. This past year has proved to be especially challenging as she learned that she had developed a secondary blood cancer and that this second cancer has crossed from her blood stream into her spinal fluid. In an attempt to rid her body of this new threat to her life she has begun receiving chemotherapy injections administered directly into her spine through a port in her back.
She has had to take disability leave from work as the newest treatment is simply too much for her to manage. The financial strain has proven to be nearly as devastating as the physical and emotional weight of the cancer. We believe that she will beat the disease that threatens to take this amazing woman from us. Beyond a shadow of a doubt we know that her community and the world is a much better place with her in it.
